Abstract

Matheson Foods is undergoing what is probably a classic case of distribution evolution. The Zatega Division has developed an innovative production process as a means of entering a new field. Once this process is under control the focus of management shifts to improving market share. That is, now that they know how to make the product it is time to sell and distribute it. The organisational challenges in the first case are different than in the second and this means priorities and influence among organisational units must be adjusted.
