Note from the publisher

Dear all,

We would like to take this opportunity to formally introduce Professor Simon Dolan who has recently taken over the editorship of the journal. Since 2001 Simon has been working as the Ramon Llul University Full Professor of HRM at ESADE Business School, Spain and has been a full tenured Professor of Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior at the School of Industrial Relations, The University of Montreal since 1978. He is the author of numerous books, over 100 peer reviewed articles, and has been invited to give speeches all over the world. With such a prominent resume we are delighted to see him as editor of the journal. We are certain his dynamic approach and enthusiasm for cross-cultural management will have a profound impact on the journal.

We would also like to welcome some of the editorial support that Simon has recruited since his appointment. Most recently, Professor Jan Selmer of the Aarhus School of Business, Norway, and Dr Alan Kai Ming, of the Open University of Hong Kong have been invited to act as Regional Editors for Europe and Asia/Australasia, respectively. Professor Alan Auerbach of the Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada, has also joined the team as Book Reviews Editor. As of 2008 Simon also plans an addition to the journal in the form Executive Corners in each issue – sections where senior executives of leading global companies share their experiences of cross-cultural management.

For regular readers of the journal we would like to state that the journal continues to generate much interest at conferences and within the academic community and we are confident under Professor Dolan's editorship this trend will increase. In 2006, the journal had over 51,000 article downloads; in 2002, the number was closer to 26,000. We were also impressed with the geographical spread of authors in 2006 since whilst Australia and America remained the dominant sources of input, there were also significant contributions from all areas of Europe, the Middle East and South-East Asia. Readers may also be interested to know that the two top downloaded articles (since monitoring began in 2001) are "The cultural impact of globalization: economic activity and social change," by Nada Asgary and Alf H. Walle, Vol. 9 No. 3; and "Cultural and business ethics," by Paul Sietz, Vol. 5 No. 3. Emerald now have Most Downloaded Articles Reports linked to the homepage of all their journals and on them you will find top article downloads measured in various ways (top downloads in 2007, top downloads in 2006, since monitoring began, and by immediate impact). They have proved very popular with our community and we recommend that you take a look.

Special thanks must go to the work of the previous editor Professor Sam Natale. His contribution was invaluable to the growth of the journal and we would like to wish him well in his future work. Sam accepted the papers for all the 2007 volume, so whilst Simon took over a few months ago, the copy he has had reviewed and accepted will not be published until 2008.
