NanoKTN opens up membership to nanotechnology community

Article Type: News From: Assembly Automation, Volume 30, Issue 1

Free membership available to all nanotechnology stakeholders.

The Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network (NanoKTN), one of the UK's primary knowledge-based networks for micro and nanotechnologies (MNTs), is offering free membership to the nanotechnology supply chain and is encouraging anyone interested in receiving information about events, specific focus groups targeted at their markets, and the latest in government and public policy, to sign up today.

The NanoKTN's membership already exceeds 2,400 individuals and continues to grow month-on-month, with its monthly enrolment figures rising by over 40 percent from last year.

The NanoKTN is also encouraging any individuals or organisations that work in the UK MNT sector, to register as a member and ensure their organisation or academic expertise is listed within its free directory of MNT professionals.

The NanoKTN supports the exploitation and commercialisation of MNTs by informing, facilitating innovation and encouraging collaborations between suppliers and users.

“Becoming a member of the NanoKTN not only gives members access to the key companies and leading academics who work in the MNT field but it also gives members the opportunity to engage in the exchange of information which the NanoKTN believe will lead to keeping the UK at the forefront of developments in nanotechnology,” says Alec Reader, Director of the NanoKTN.

Reader continues, “We encourage anyone working within the MNT sector to sign up for membership to ensure they are kept up-to-date with crucial developments in nanotechnology within their market.”

Set up by the Technology Strategy Board, an executive non-departmental public body, established by the UK Government in 2007 and sponsored by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, the NanoKTN focuses on promoting and facilitating knowledge exchange, supporting the growth of the UK capabilities, raising awareness of nanotechnology and providing thought leadership and input to the UK policy and strategy.

The activities of the NanoKTN are focused in four different areas: materials, metrology, manufacturing and processing, and bionano and nanomedicine.

Becoming a member of the NanoKTN offers direct access to the key contacts at the market leading companies who work in the MNT field, as well as access to a broad range of services and benefits including:

  • Events. Receive free attendance or privileged member rates for NanoKTN events.

  • Networking. The NanoKTN hosts a number of events throughout the calendar year including Industry Awareness Days, Technical Workshops and Online Webinars. At events, members of the NanoKTN can pre-book meetings with delegates, enabling them to arrange interviews with key members of the MNT community.

  • Focus Groups. Participate in focus group activities and be part of building sustainable supply chains.

  • The Directory. Listing in the NanoKTN's Directory is free to all members from the UK MNT organisations and research groups. Members also receive access to The Directory which enables you to locate the specific technology/capability you require information about.

  • NanoKTN web site. Receive access to member-only areas of the web site which includes event presentations, podcasts and news on successful projects such as FP5, FP6, and Collaborative R&D. You can also create your own personal searches for news articles, patents and documents which will be updated on a daily basis, providing you with the latest information most relevant to your areas of interest.
