Doris Candelarie, PhD, is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Educational Leadership & Policy Studies in the Morgridge College of Education at the University of Denver. Her academic degrees include PhD in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, MA in Education: Teaching and Learning, and BA in Elementary Education. Prior to her faculty position, she spent 28 years in public education as an elementary and middle school teacher, elementary and middle school principal, and central office administrator. In 2014, she was recognized as the Colorado National Distinguished Principal for her work at Sanchez International School, a former turnaround school. Dr Candelarie's teaching agenda includes preparing the next generation of principals and courses in the MA and Doctoral programs in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies. Influencing educational change for equity, racial and social justice and closing the opportunity gap through education are her professional passions. Other research interests include Latina/o/x leadership in education, educational regeneration, turnaround leadership, parent and community partnerships in schools, and intercultural development for leaders.
